Abstract

The finger tip serve as our primary contact with the environment and the finger tip injury is becoming more common with the increasing use of mechanical, industrial, and household appliances.
The injuried finger tip is treated by adequate tissue replacement and desired sensibility for grasp and percussion.
Subsequenty growth of the finger nail with local flap advancement, tension of the flap, and insufficient coverage results in a curious claw nail deformity of the finger, both functionally and esthetically disturbing.
The cross finger flap is usually the best choice for defects of the volar surface of fingers that require a flap for repair and has the advantages of good tissue match and simplicity of immobilization with the hand in a protective position.
Use of the thenar flap is far superior to any other technique for reconstruction of major distal phalangeal finger amputation because of extact tissue match, sufficient subcutaneous tissue to restore the lost pulp, and inconspicous donor site during most activities.
The results are most satisfactory from both the cosmetic and the functional standpoint.
